Trimming & Cutting
Remove unwanted parts from your recording quickly and precisely.
Trimming Start and End
Drag the trim handles at the beginning and end of the timeline to remove content from the start or end of your recording. This is the fastest way to clean up idle time before and after your main content.
Splitting Segments
Position the playhead at the point where you want to make a cut, then press C to split the segment into two parts. You can split as many times as needed to isolate specific sections.
Deleting Segments
Select one or more segments on the timeline and press Delete or Backspace to remove them. Recorded uses ripple delete — when a segment is removed, all subsequent segments shift earlier to close the gap, keeping your timeline continuous.
Selecting Segments
- Click a segment to select it.
- Cmd/Ctrl + A selects all segments on the timeline.
- Escape clears the current selection.
Auto-Cut at Zoom Boundaries
When you add zoom effects to your recording, Recorded can automatically split your video segments at zoom region boundaries. This makes it easy to apply different settings (speed, audio volume) to zoomed and non-zoomed sections independently.
Undo and Redo
All trim and cut operations can be undone with Cmd/Ctrl + Z and redone with Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + Z (or Ctrl + Y on Windows). The full edit history is preserved throughout your editing session.
