Webcam Overlay

Customize how your webcam feed appears in the final video. Webcam settings are configured per segment, so you can change the layout, position, and style at different points in your recording.

Layouts

Recorded offers several layout options for your webcam overlay:

Picture-in-Picture (PIP)

Place the webcam as a small overlay in any corner of the video:

  • Bottom Right — The default position, most natural for right-to-left reading
  • Bottom Left
  • Top Right
  • Top Left

PIP size is adjustable from 10% to 50% of the video dimensions.

Split View

Display the webcam and screen recording side by side:

  • Split Left — Webcam on the left, screen recording on the right
  • Split Right — Webcam on the right, screen recording on the left

The split ratio is adjustable from 20% to 50%.

Full and Hidden

  • Full — The webcam fills the entire frame, replacing the screen recording
  • Hidden — The webcam is not visible (useful for temporarily hiding it in specific segments)

Shapes

Choose the shape of your webcam overlay:

  • Circle — A perfect circular mask
  • Squircle — A rounded square with Apple-style continuous curves
  • Rounded — A rectangle with slightly rounded corners
  • Square — A sharp-edged square

Styling

Border

Add a border around the webcam overlay:

  • Width: 1–10px
  • Color: Any hex color

Shadow

Add a drop shadow for depth:

  • Blur: 0–50px
  • Offset: X and Y positioning
  • Opacity: Adjustable transparency
  • Enable or disable independently

Opacity

Control the webcam overlay transparency from 20% to 100%.

Transitions

Animate how the webcam appears and disappears between segments:

Transition Types

  • None — Instant cut (no animation)
  • Fade — Smooth opacity fade
  • Slide — Directional slide (up, down, left, or right)
  • Scale — Zoom in/out effect
  • Bounce — Bouncy spring entrance
  • Flip — 3D rotation flip
  • Morph — Shape morphing

Transition Settings

  • Duration: 0.1s to 1.0s for both entry and exit
  • Easing: Linear, ease, ease-in, ease-out, ease-in-out, or spring
  • Entry and exit transitions are configured independently

Transition Presets

Quick-apply presets for common styles:

Auto-Resize with Zoom

The webcam PIP automatically resizes when a zoom effect is active, preventing it from taking up too much screen space during zoomed-in sections. This is enabled by default and can be toggled off in the webcam settings if you prefer a fixed size.

Smart Auto-Positioning

Recorded can automatically analyze your cursor position throughout the recording and reposition the webcam to avoid overlapping with your cursor. The algorithm selects the best corner for each segment, maintaining a minimum 2-second duration per position to prevent distracting flicker.
