Installation

Recorded is available for macOS and Windows. Follow the instructions below to get started.

System Requirements

macOS

  • OS: macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later
  • Processor: Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) or Intel
  • RAM: 4 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended
  • Storage: 200 MB for installation, plus space for recordings

Windows

  • OS: Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
  • Processor: x86_64 with SSE4.2 support
  • RAM: 4 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended
  • GPU: DirectX 11 compatible (for hardware-accelerated encoding)
  • Storage: 200 MB for installation, plus space for recordings

Download

Visit recorded.app/download to get the latest version for your platform.

macOS

  1. Download the .dmg file
  2. Open the downloaded file
  3. Drag Recorded to your Applications folder
  4. Launch Recorded from Applications or Spotlight

On first launch, macOS may show a security prompt because the app was downloaded from the internet. Click Open to continue.

Windows

  1. Download the .exe installer
  2. Run the installer and follow the setup wizard
  3. Choose your installation directory (default is recommended)
  4. Launch Recorded from the Start menu or desktop shortcut

First Launch

When you first open Recorded, you’ll need to grant system permissions for screen capture and media access. See the Permissions guide for detailed instructions on setting up permissions for your platform.

Updating

Recorded checks for updates automatically. When a new version is available, you’ll see a notification in the app. Click Update to download and install the latest version. You can also check your current version in Settings > Versions.

Uninstalling

macOS

  1. Quit Recorded
  2. Drag Recorded from Applications to the Trash
  3. Empty the Trash
  4. Optionally, remove the application data at ~/Library/Application Support/Recorded/

Windows

  1. Close Recorded
  2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps
  3. Find Recorded and click Uninstall
  4. Follow the uninstall wizard
