Interface Overview
Recorded’s interface is designed to be simple yet powerful. This guide covers the main areas you’ll interact with.
Main Window
The main window is your starting point. It contains:
Capture Mode Selector
At the top, you’ll find three capture mode buttons:
- Monitor — Select which display to record
- Window — Pick a specific application window
- Area — Draw a custom recording region
Device Controls
Below the capture mode, you’ll find toggles for:
- Microphone — Select and enable/disable your mic input
- System Audio — Toggle system sound capture
- Webcam — Enable face cam overlay with a live preview
Recording Button
The large red button at the bottom starts your recording.
Recording Control Panel
While recording, a compact floating panel appears with:
- Recording indicator — An animated pulsing red dot with “REC” text
- Timer — Shows elapsed recording time in MM:SS format
- Webcam preview — Live camera feed (when webcam is enabled)
- Audio waveforms — Visual indicators for microphone and system audio levels
- Stop — End the recording and open the editor
- Cancel — Discard the current recording and delete all files
The control panel is draggable so you can move it out of the way. It also becomes semi-transparent when unfocused to avoid obstructing your screen.
Editor
After recording, the editor opens automatically with these sections:
Timeline
The timeline at the bottom shows your recording with:
- Playback controls — Play and pause, or click anywhere on the timeline to scrub
- Trim handles — Drag to trim the start and end
- Segment management — Split segments at the playhead with
C, delete withDelete - Zoom markers — Visual indicators for zoom effect regions
- Audio waveforms — System audio and microphone waveforms displayed below the video track
Editing Tabs
The right panel contains editing controls organized in tabs:
- Background — Choose wallpaper images, gradients, or solid colors. Adjust padding, corner radius, blur, and shadow.
- Cursor — Customize cursor size (12–256px), choose presets, adjust smoothing, and configure click animations and sounds.
- Crop — Crop the video and change the canvas aspect ratio (16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 1:1, and more).
- Caption — Generate AI captions from microphone audio using Whisper speech-to-text, or add manual text overlays with full styling controls.
- Music — Add background music from preset tracks with volume control.
- Advanced — Configure motion blur settings (strength, shutter angle, quality).
- Segment (per-segment) — Adjust playback speed (0.25x–4x) and audio volume (system + mic) for individual segments.
- Webcam (per-segment) — Position, resize, and style the webcam overlay with shapes, borders, shadows, and transitions.
- Zoom (per-segment) — Configure zoom level (1–4x), target position, and easing curves.
Preview
The main area shows a live preview of your edited recording with the current background, zoom effects, cursor styling, and webcam overlay applied in real time.
Library
Access your recording library from the navigation to:
- Browse all past recordings with thumbnails
- Open recordings in the editor
- Rename recordings
- Open the recording folder in your file explorer
- Delete unwanted recordings
- View recording metadata (duration, date, file size)
Settings
The settings panel includes the following tabs:
- Account — Log in and manage your Recorded account
- Versions — Check the current app version and update information
- Language — Choose from 14 supported languages
- Open Source — View open source license credits
- Contact Us — Send inquiries or feedback with optional image attachments
