Webcam

Add a live camera feed to your recordings to create engaging, personal content. The webcam overlay is recorded alongside your screen capture and can be customized extensively in the editor afterward.

Enabling Webcam

Toggle the webcam from the main window before starting your recording. When enabled, Recorded accesses your camera and begins a live preview.

Camera Selection

If you have multiple cameras connected, click the camera device menu to select which one to use. Recorded lists all available video input devices. If the previously selected camera is no longer available, it automatically falls back to the default camera.

Webcam Preview

A compact live preview appears in the main window when the webcam is enabled, showing your camera feed at a small size. During recording, the webcam preview also appears in the floating control panel so you can monitor your framing.

The preview runs at a lightweight 15 FPS at low resolution to minimize resource usage while still giving you a clear view of your framing.

What Gets Recorded

The webcam feed is captured as a separate video file alongside the screen recording. This means:

  • You can change the webcam position, size, shape, and style after recording in the editor — nothing is “baked in” during capture.
  • If you decide you don’t want the webcam in the final video, you can simply hide it in the editor without re-recording.
  • Webcam settings can vary per segment, so you can show or hide the camera at different points in your recording.

Platform Notes

  • macOS: Camera access requires permission. When prompted, click Allow, or go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and enable Recorded.
  • Windows: When Windows prompts for camera access, click Yes, or go to Settings > Privacy > Camera and ensure Recorded has access.
